about

A folksy type song I wrote about all the fun times I had on staff at summer camp. There's really not that much more to it, and it pretty much all references real events. The line about "lightning struck the telephone wire" refers to a kid who was sitting near an electrical socket in his cabin* (*the construction cabin, where they did work projects, and the only cabin that had electricity in the whole camp) when lightning struck nearby and jolted him pretty intensely. We all figured he'd be able to see the future after that but it didn't pan out. Our supervisor Bob DID always play the song "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton on the piano. We did in fact eat omelettes by the fire, though they were prepared in the kitchen and brought there lol. You can hear me, Adam, and our friends Dean and Drew (affectionately called "the Philistines" during this recording, as they mostly just hung out but would occasionally come up with fun, weird ideas to throw in) reciting state names backwards during the break. The drums are way too trebly (because we didn't know what we were doing and had shitty mics) but it's a vibe. --Ross

lyrics

Well I was keeping track of time
and I was feeling like a lime
As I was musing by the fire
Lightning struck the telephone wire

Lake side tell me why
Why don't you go to sleep?

Running all night long
Bob always played that song
The food weren't so good
Cups, and brooms of wood
and I said

Lake side tell me why
Why don't you go to sleep?

I've been waiting for you
but you don't seem to appear

We were living like we should
You know we've got it good
Staying up so long
with omelettes at the fire

Lake side tell me why
Why don't you go to sleep?
